Bank of Canada Holds Key Interest Rate at 2.25% on June 10! (5th hold in a row)

The Bank of Canada announced on June 10, 2026 that it is holding the policy interest rate steady at 2.25% for the fifth consecutive time. The Bank continues to point to a weakening economy, ongoing global uncertainty, and the impact of wars and trade tensions with the United States as key reasons for maintaining the current rate. With risks remaining elevated, the Bank is taking a cautious, wait-and-see approach. We could see rate cuts or rate hikes in the near future. The next rate announcement is scheduled for July 15, 2026.
