It was a pleasure participating in the Seniors Expo this week and connecting with so many seniors, families, and local service providers.

One thing I've learned through helping my own mom and working with clients is that downsizing and senior transitions are about much more than real estate. They often involve difficult decisions, family conversations and finding the right support at the right time.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth to say hello. I always enjoy hearing people's stories and sharing resources that may help make the journey a little easier.

Often selling the family home is the last step in the real estate journey.
Where do we go, what do we do with all our belongings and memories.

Working with many families over the years I understand it isn't just about the sale
its the emotion, the attachment the fear of leaving.

It for sure is a journey, however, working our way through that and finding the right home - The result is "I know I did the right thing".

Who is the Sandwich Generation?

These are adults who find themselves caring for aging parents while still supporting their own children. They often worry about finances, caregiving, housing decisions, and finding enough time for everyone who depends on them. while working a full-time job.

Having aging parents is one thing, however, having aging parents with dementia is
a whole different ball game.

They don't believe anything is wrong with them especially in the early stages.
Often one of the spouses has passed away and your parent is living on their
own.

We worry about the stove being left on, maybe they go out for a walk and get lost.
Real Estate is secondary, keeping them safe at home is always first.

The worry begins slowly until these changes begin speeding up and now the concern is real.
Their living environment is not safe and they shouldn't be on their own.
Bringing up moving falls on deaf ears and the wall instantly goes up.

Working in this environment I hear the adult kids speaking about this and the best thing you can do is not pound into them that they need to move and that they can't stay here forever.

It is more of an emotional conversation with regard to how they are feeling? and do they have any concerns about their home?

It is so hard to remain calm and level headed when you're met with they just want to stay where they are.

For now just listen and perhaps some safety measures can be taken such as adding life line so they are one call away from help 24/7.

As adult children, there often comes a time when we become the caregiver, helper, and decision-makers for our parents.

It can be emotional and overwhelming.

Working in senior real estate transitions, I see firsthand how difficult these moments can be for families, especially when conversations about safety, downsizing and moving begin.

After walking through these experiences with clients, I understand that these conversations are rarely just about the home.

This was such a good laugh for me. Care homes have their ups and downs.

Supporting my mom through dementia has changed the way I see life, family and my work. I know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel for adult children trying to balance caregiving, decisions, emotions and everyday life.

When families are facing a transition for a parent, they don’t just need a REALTOR®.
They need patience.

Compassion
and someone who truly understands.

Visited The Glades Woodland Garden in South Surrey on Saturday. The gardens feature winding walking paths, mature rhododendrons, azaleas, ponds and a large selection of trees and plants.

The Glades Woodland Garden was originally developed in the 1950s by Murray and Lydia Stephen, who transformed the property into a large woodland garden.

After the property changed ownership in 1994, Jim and Elfriede DeWolf restored and preserved the gardens and then donated to the city of Surrey in 2002.
