The Impact of Emergencies on People Living with Dementia •

Dementia can impact someone’s ability to communicate their needs or recognize when to ask for help, leaving many people living with the disease vulnerable to uncertainty and emotional trauma caused by wildfires and other emergency situations.

• Emergency situations will disrupt the routine of someone living with dementia whether they’re living at home or in care. In some cases, they may not understand what is happening and might be confused in an unfamiliar place during an evacuation.

• Each person living with the disease is unique and one-to-one emotional support is crucial to identifying their unique needs and responding to any behavioural changes.

• Planning ahead is vital to alleviating stress and supporting them to respond to situations quickly:

Understand the potential risk.
Have an emergency plan.
Prepare an emergency kit.

People living with dementia, caregivers, health-care staff and first responders can call the First Link® Dementia Helpline (1-800-936-6033) for support on how to handle responding during an emergency.

🎈Almost TWO years to find the perfect home... was it worth the wait? Absolutely!

When I first met my clients nearly two years ago, they had a very specific wish list: a top-floor corner condo within their budget. They were also deciding between Surrey and Port Coquitlam, so we explored both areas.

🐕Then life happened... they welcomed a medium-sized dog into the family!

Suddenly, their priorities changed. We shifted our search to Walnut Grove, where they already loved walking the trails, hoping to find a ground-floor condo with easy access to nature.🌳

As the market changed and they received some help from family, their dream evolved once again. This time, they realized a backyard would be the perfect fit for both them and their pup.

We looked at townhomes in Walnut Grove Langley, but none felt quite right. Then we found it—a beautiful townhome in Willoughby Langley backing onto a greenbelt with walking trails just steps away.🏘️
