The Township of Langley reached a major milestone yesterday as the Booth, Fernridge, and Rinn NCPs in Brookswood received 3rd reading. No additional amendments to land use or zoning since the second public hearing were put forth. Overall, council understood the NCPs weren’t perfect but agreed it was time to move forward with growth in Brookswood.

At yesterday’s second public hearing for Booth, Fernridge, and Rinn neighbourhood plans, land use maps for all three NCPs were shown with a side by side comparison of changes since the May 29, 2023 public hearing. The maps mainly show council reverting back to larger single family lot sizes.

Opposing public opinions about 4000 sq.ft./5000 sq.ft. single family lot sizes versus 7000 sq.ft. /10,000 sq.ft. continued to be a popular topic, although it seemed more members of the public who spoke yesterday swayed toward smaller lots for higher density.

Other highlights from yesterday’s public hearing:

- The need for another public open house to allow residents more time to consider the revisions and provide input
- The need for a tree retention bylaw due to unnecessary clearcutting of trees for new development
- High CACs being unattractive to developers
- Concerns to prevent Brookswood from becoming another Willoughby

Further discussion from council will take place in the next meeting on July 24, 2023.
