She taught me how to love fiercely, show up fully, and make a house feel like home.

This table.
My parents’ first home was on Coxwell Avenue in Toronto. Then they moved to Scarborough, when my sister Jenny was born. But this table’s journey really begins in Calgary in the house my little sister Suzie came home from the hospital to in 1980, the house my parents bought in 1979.

From there, it made its way back to Toronto, lived briefly in a rented home, and eventually traveled up the 400 to settle in a cute house on Eugenia Street in Barrie. The table fit perfectly in this home where we grew up. Where homework was done, dinners stretched long, and life speedily took shape.

When we sold my parents’ last family home last Fall, this table was sitting in the basement all alone covered in dust. Especially after losing my mom recently, I couldn’t send it to the ReStore or give it away. The memories were too loud. Too good. Too important.

It’s too small for our house now—but for now it keeps me connected to my younger self… and to her. 🖤 (Two things I am not wanting to part with)

Today it’s holding Tori’s Grade 9 math homework (linear equations, graphing… all the things I definitely remember but didn’t do as well as her 😅). Watching her navigate high school already feels surreal. I’m so proud of her.

Full circle moments hit differently.

Homes hold stories. Furniture holds generations. And selling a family home? You don’t truly understand it until you’ve lived it. 💫
