The Ontario government has dropped its plan to consult on ending rent control and indefinite leases after backlash from renters and their advocates.
In late October, the province said it was exploring changes to lease expiry rules that could have given landlords more control over who occupies their units, and for how long.
Currently, renters enjoy “security of tenure” – the right to stay in their units indefinitely as long as they follow their lease and the Residential Tenancies Act.
The government announcement was met with immediate criticism. Tenant advocates warned that opening the door to shorter or more conditional leases could put vulnerable renters at risk and make housing insecurity worse.
Within days, Housing Minister Rob Flack confirmed on social media that the government would not move forward with the consultations, and that their focus would instead remain on “restoring balance” at the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB).

“The way the system [at the LTB] is right now is not helping good landlords or good tenants,” Bah says. “It’s only helping those who abuse the process.” I believe part of the problem is the tenants but most of it is on the government that control it taking a long time to respond to problems , long waiting for court dates, years ago court was every 3 weeks in the kawarthas
now it all together and they are saving (making ) more money not sure why it takes so long?

Its like the housing shortage blame the homeless not the government who allows and supports the drugs and stopped building while bringing more people in.
Bah is right it is the system but his conclusion on how is wrong look to the government that controls it

WE are having a huge housing shortage, as people struggle with high prices for everything it seems our government is not doing enough! Professional care and compaction are at a high price and they don't want to do the work and build more housing, lower taxes, support local. When it seems the only deals are drug deals its easy to see how the system has failed! Yet the victims are still being victimized. The community's are suffering. Many of these things are under government control! We all need to do better
