Just a few examples of plants that we suggest NEVER be planted on your property.
Some harbour tick vectors like white-footed mice, while others out compete native plant species and offer nothing to support the native fauna other than a little cover.
What you plant has more of an impact than you realize! Too often we've discovered gardened plants like English ivy, forget-me-nots, periwinkle and archangel spreading vigorously into wildlands close by. The impacts are disastrous to the native ecology.
Be plant-wise! If it's non-native, it best be non-invasive. Unsure? Do your research, or reach out to us or somebody else in the know. π±π
A few of the many invasive species you should avoid planting in North America.
An invasive plant is one which is non-native AND causes environmental or ecological harm. Not all non-native plants are invasive, but all invasive plants are non-native.
As always, this list is non-comprehensive, just a handful of species to look out for:
β English ivy (Hedera helix)
β Japanese honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica)
β Wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei)
β Periwinkle (Vinca minor)
β Creeping Jenny (Lysimachia nummularia)
β Multiflora rose (Rosa multiflora)
β Ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea)
β Dames rocket (Hesperis matronalis)
β Orange daylily (Hemerocallis fulva)
β Red barberry (Berberis thunbergii)
β Mimosa tree (Albizia julibrissin)
β Tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima)
