I've seen lots of frozen water lines under trailers lately. Please be careful if you find it necessary to thaw your water lines under your trailer in this extream cold. Avoid getting into a rush and using open flame. I know construction heaters will work faster but the risk of burning your home to the ground is a real possibility. Slow and steady is definately best.

If you have a home that was built prior to 1965 then you likely have copper vent piping. In this cold weather frost buildup in the vent stack could force some gases to come through pin holes in the copper pipe which will cause odours in the house. The sewer gas has a tendency to rot out the copper after 50 years or so when connected to a septic tank. I see this type of thing all the time in this age of building although in this photo it's the worst I've seen.

With the current cold spell, it might be advisable to not run your HRV continuously. By runnibf the HRV constantly in - 30°C you are likely going to cause the air exchanger to freeze up. When this happens the system is no longer working properly and you may burn out some moving parts such as fans due to the ice and condensation that forms when the dew point is reached inside the exchanger. A constant flow of - 30° air across the exchanger is more like a fridge than a heat exchanger. Always read the manual and follow the recommended guidelines for your unit. You should not set and forget. Stay warm out there and best of luck keeping your home safe and healthy for your family.
