Let’s say you are looking at a home priced at $300,000. You could ask the seller to reduce the purchase price by $10,000 and see roughly $78 per month in savings. But if you negotiate a $10,000 credit to buy down your interest rate instead, the monthly savings could be closer to $248. Same $10,000. Very different outcome. Sometimes the smartest move in a negotiation is not the one most buyers think of first. Having the right strategy can make a huge difference in your long term affordability.
