Development in our small towns is a conversation we need to be having.

I understand why people worry about growth changing the character of the communities they love. More traffic, more construction and more people can feel like a lot of change all at once.

But there’s another side to development too.

🏡 More housing options for families
👨‍👩‍👧 Opportunities for younger families to call these communities home
🏪 More support for local businesses
🏫 Growth that can help support schools, services and infrastructure
🔑 More choices for people who may no longer be able to afford larger urban centres

The key isn’t necessarily stopping development. It’s making sure communities are growing thoughtfully while still protecting what makes them special in the first place.

There’s a side of real estate most people never see.

The missed family moments. The lost sleep. Meeting strangers alone. The problems handled quietly behind the scenes. Working through vacations. Being the negotiator, problem solver and sometimes therapist. Showing up when your own life is hard. Giving nights, weekends, time and money with no guarantee of getting paid.

This is one of those careers where you don’t clock out, go home and completely shut it off. Your clients are making some of the biggest decisions of their lives, and you carry that responsibility with you.

But what an honour it is to be trusted with someone’s home. The place they’ll raise their family, make memories and invest in what is often their biggest asset.

I’m incredibly grateful for this career. Even on the days it asks a lot from us. 🤍
