I was the #1 Re/Max agent in my office for September. You may ask what this takes? Hot or cold, up or down, every day we continue to do what we do whether it is knocking on doors, making cold calls, talking to the neighbours, posting on social media, talking to past/new clients, or networking with other agents.

To be #1 in real estate, the biggest thing is communication. It is absolutely essential to keep your clients informed of every step of the buying or selling of their home. Listening well is a big part of ensuring long-term relationship. I have learned a lot in my day about the importance of communication and its affect, both good and bad. Good communication in personal relationships builds trust, deepens connections and helps to resolve conflict. In the workplace it facilitates teamwork, problem-solving, and clear delegation of tasks. It is something that I need to constantly be aware of and practice, practice, practice.

Recently, I had multiple offers at the same time of a property and four of them were conditional on the sale of another property. This was the first time in my 40-year career. While in this day and age it means that people are less likely to take risks (wanting their home to be sold first), it also ups the need for good communication with everyone. This is about to be a theme for me this year in terms of the benefits of good communication and the pitfalls of not so good communication… because if you are always #1, there is no place to go but down and that means you must always appreciate where you have failed and correct it.

I can’t say that I read a lot, but I do find myself fond of quotes with themes of gratitude. “Attitude of Gratitude” is what is posted on my fridge. I know I am not alone in needing daily reminders of what we have instead of complaining about what we don’t have. The popular self-help German-Canadian, Eckhart Tolle (who wrote “The Power of Now” plus a lot of other smart stuff) said this: “Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”

So, it is in this time of thanksgiving, I acknowledge the good fortune I have living in Canada, of the relationship I have with my family, of working with my daughter, the fun I have with my partner, my grandsons, my household of pets, and this career I have that has allowed me to meet the people I have, to help my community, and to simply live fully.

It is truly an abundant life. My deepest gratitude to all of you who share it with me

OPEN HOUSE - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12TH 1:00PM-3:00PM

An adorable little one and a half story house nestled in a quiet Byron neighbourhood with well appointed contemporary edge interior.

Listed at $579,900

A home is a story… from its beginnings to the people who filled its rooms, and the walls that recorded their lives.

Here is the story of 1305 Springbank Ave…

I am a turn-of the century 1039 square foot home, built in 1905, when minimalism became in vogue. My turn-of the-century revamp retains the glistening polished oak floors and nod to minimalism with classic lines and pale tones to complement eclectic tastes in furniture or works of art. The clean open kitchen features transom windows to the living area. I am somewhat proud of my environmentally sensitive gravel driveway that leads to a street-facing covered front porch, perfect for a morning coffee. Two upper-level bedrooms with the principal room overlooking the backyard (which I will get to in a moment). It seems a bit unusual for the time period I was built in for the basement to have such a decent ceiling height that now accommodates a third bedroom. There is a main floor powder room and upper-level full bath. Now, to that backyard…hmmm… my lot is 234 feet deep with a mature and peaceful landscape, an interlocking brick patio with fire-pit including a board and batten garden shed. If that isn’t enough, I am in walking distance to Springbank Park, schools, the library, the community centre and shopping!

I am definitely a neighbourhood kind of home to nestle in.

Open House Saturday, October 5th 11am to 1pm
103 Forward Avenue - Listed at $349,900.00

A corner property that anchors a neighbourly community inviting a first-time home buyer or investor.

A home is a story… from its beginnings to the people who filled its rooms, and the walls that recorded their lives.

Here is the story of 103 Forward Ave…

At 1,015 square feet of living space, I may be small, but I know my value. Built in 1910, I am part of Kensington Village by the Thames River with easy access to parks, Thames Valley Parkway Bike Paths, Covent Garden Market, Transit lines, UWO and all shopping amenities. My super bonus is that I am embraced by a genuine sense of community with annual street parties and neighbourhood yard sales. While I come with two bedrooms, one bath and a main floor laundry, I confess I am ready for some work. I have been home to four generations since 1946, so there is definitely something to be said for me! My 26'x155’ corner lot has a little shed and asparagus garden. I am ready for someone who sees what I am and what I can become.

In our strategic marketing session last month, Carrie and I each identified personal and corporate goals for ourselves, both short term and long term. We were encouraged to make sure they were realistic and achievable… not too “pie in the sky.” The exercise also focused on connecting our personal goals to our corporate goals… on recognizing that focusing on personal goals puts us closer to our corporate goals and vice versa. While I am known to be a driven person, I even surprised myself that I knocked off three personal goals this month: I took 10 days off. I invested in my family relationships. And in my intentional physical fitness. Yup. My partner, Carman and I took ten days off together. We biked 400 kilometers in Quebec, tenting, biking, eating, biking, seeing the beauty of our country and more biking. When we wrapped that up, we took a quick drive to visit his son and family.

The cycling stint really was eye opening for me. Carman and I have done major trips before, like cycling from the west coast of Canada to the east. But that was a while ago. I realized I wasn’t in quite the same shape I once was! It seems I had taken this for granted. In reflection, I saw how this related to my career. After 40 years, “fitness" is not just a physical measure, it is also a mental and spiritual taking stock. It is following a regime that keeps all parts of the human machine balanced and in tune.

And so that time has come… to assess, to let go, to retune my mind and body. It is time to affirm the pleasure I receive in listening to all that is around me, the birds, the sound of the wind and rain, and to you, the people I meet everyday. This is my music. The people in my family, my friends, the clients I connect with each day… you are all the notes that bring me joy.
