Did you know that caring for mature trees on your property actually helps support London’s long-term tree canopy goals?

London’s Tree Canopy Conservation Program lets homeowners play a direct role in meeting the city’s 2065 target of 34% canopy cover. Instead of focusing on new planting alone, this funding program helps residents keep large, healthy trees on their properties longer. If your tree is at least 40 cm in diameter, you may qualify for reimbursement, up to $1,000 per tree and up to $5,000 per property, for work like pruning, cabling, soil care, and pest management, as long as the work is done by a qualified arborist and approved before it begins.

Since most of London’s biggest trees are on private land, the city counts on homeowners to extend the life of these giants while new plantings catch up. Funding is limited and offered first-come, first-served, so it’s worth checking eligibility as soon as possible if you’re considering tree work this year.
