✨Incredibly Proud Mom Moment✨

Today, Kayden officially received his LSTAR Scholarship cheque. He was honoured to have been chosen as one of 4 recipients out of 26 applicants by the LSTAR Scholarship Committee. When we were accepting his cheque, he was told that his application was not only a ‘stand-out’ for this year, but one of the most impressive they’ve received as part of the program. It was so validating for him to hear that after all the hard work he put into it. He’s walking a little taller today. We are very grateful for the assist in furthering his education.

Kayden will be attending Fanshawe College in September for Aviation Maintenance and Avionics to become an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME). His ultimate goal is to also obtain his Commercial Pilot’s License and become a Bush Plane Pilot servicing northern communities. The combination of having his AME and Pilot’s License should serve him well in those remote locations he looks forward to servicing.

Thank you so much to the LSTAR Scholarship Committee for also believing in my boy and helping him reach his dreams.

Things I do as a female Realtor, that my male counter parts likely never think about when showing properties for the first time to “strangers from the internet”:

1 - I always insist on sending some form of government ID before meeting. I store it temporarily in a secure file. (I know this can be fudged. I like to think most people are good though and bad people rarely fudge their own photo so at least there’s a face to find.)

2 - I ask not only if they have a pre-approval, but also who it’s with. If at any point I’m questioning their legitimacy or intentions this gives me another point of contact to connect with.

3 - I try to meet in a public setting before we view any properties so I can feel it out. This not only lets each of us see if we will work well together, have a conversation around what they’re looking for etc, but it also allows me an exit if I feel something is off.

4 - I always wear pants. ‘Nuff said.

5 - I never take the first step into a space unless it’s towards an exit. For example, I let the client take the lead up to a second floor or down to a basement but will always be the first one out of the basement or down to the main floor.

6 - I park either on the road or if it’s a parking lot, I back into the space and I keep my keys in my hand.

Well, fellow Realtors, did I miss anything? Have you ever been in a situation where you felt unsafe?

Do I get pushback on some of these things? Occasionally. But once I explain the WHY behind it people are generally understanding.

One of the biggest a risks we take as Realtors is meeting strangers in empty houses. To be clear, this isn’t about being sexist. I think all Realtors should be taking these precautions. I also think sometimes it’s a riskier business for us ladies.
