Things I do as a female Realtor, that my male counter parts likely never think about when showing properties for the first time to “strangers from the internet”:

1 - I always insist on sending some form of government ID before meeting. I store it temporarily in a secure file. (I know this can be fudged. I like to think most people are good though and bad people rarely fudge their own photo so at least there’s a face to find.)

2 - I ask not only if they have a pre-approval, but also who it’s with. If at any point I’m questioning their legitimacy or intentions this gives me another point of contact to connect with.

3 - I try to meet in a public setting before we view any properties so I can feel it out. This not only lets each of us see if we will work well together, have a conversation around what they’re looking for etc, but it also allows me an exit if I feel something is off.

4 - I always wear pants. ‘Nuff said.

5 - I never take the first step into a space unless it’s towards an exit. For example, I let the client take the lead up to a second floor or down to a basement but will always be the first one out of the basement or down to the main floor.

6 - I park either on the road or if it’s a parking lot, I back into the space and I keep my keys in my hand.

Well, fellow Realtors, did I miss anything? Have you ever been in a situation where you felt unsafe?

Do I get pushback on some of these things? Occasionally. But once I explain the WHY behind it people are generally understanding.

One of the biggest a risks we take as Realtors is meeting strangers in empty houses. To be clear, this isn’t about being sexist. I think all Realtors should be taking these precautions. I also think sometimes it’s a riskier business for us ladies.

A Long Winded Gratitude Post:

My annual business goals never have anything to do with reaching a certain production award level or garnering any kind of accolades. They’re never about units or transactions or income.
It is always about:
How can I better serve my clients?
What will make things easier or smoother for them?
What can I add or refine in my Realtor toolbox?
How can I make sure I’m the first name that comes to mind when their family and friends are talking about real estate?

One day a year Keller Williams releases their awards. It’s the only day I take stock of those production levels. These awards might use words like “gross production”, “closed units” and “sales volume.” For me, they represent families helped, support given and dreams realized. I have never, and will never, take these things for granted.

To all my clients this year who allowed me the honour of guiding them through a shifted market, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. I am forever grateful for the trust and you allowing me to be a part of these big life moments. I promise to always put your best interests first and I will always, always be grateful for the life your trust allows my family to lead.

Well this is some great news. Well done Mr. Bale. That is a Boss move.

Christian Bale has quietly spent the last 16 years developing a $22 million foster village in California designed to keep siblings together and support teens aging out of the system. According to El País, the project is called Together California and broke ground in early 2024 in Palmdale. It will include 12 family-style homes, each able to house up to six foster children under the care of certified foster parents.

The goal is to provide a stable and nurturing environment where siblings who have lost their parents can stay together, rather than being separated by the foster system. In addition to the homes, the village will feature two transitional studio apartments for older teens who are aging out of foster care. A 7,000-square-foot community center will serve as a hub for education, therapy, recreation, and connection.

According to My Lemon Magazine, Bale began planning the project in 2008 after learning how often siblings are split up in foster care. He worked behind the scenes for years, securing funding and support from other Hollywood figures including Leonardo DiCaprio. The village is expected to open in 2025 and aims to serve around 70 foster children.
