Did you know? The Haida Gwaii black bear, also known as Ursus americanus carlottae, is a morphologically distinct subspecies of the American black bear. The most significant differences are its massive cranium, and large molars. This subspecies is endemic to the Haida Gwaii and is considered a "keystone species" because of the bear’s transportation of salmon remains into surrounding forests of Haïda Gwaii. These remains in turn provide important nutrients to the forest floor.

By the end of this year there will be have been three pole raisings on Haida Gwaii, and a name restoration potlatch. Our unbiased opinion is that Haida Gwaii and its people are leaders the world around. Showing off a vibrant, and very much still living culture that celebrates richness by sharing it. How beautiful.
