A quick update from the Bank of Canada this morning: The overnight rate is staying at 2.25%. Another hold.

For variable rate mortgages, nothing changes today.

For anyone with a fixed rate coming up for renewal in the next few months, it's a worthwhile time to look at the numbers together. Fixed rates move with the bond market rather than the BoC, and they've been shifting on their own timeline regardless of these holds.

Headline inflation is still sitting above target (CPI was 2.8% in April), largely from energy prices tied to the conflict in the Middle East. The Bank expects it to ease back toward 2% over time.

If your renewal is coming up and you'd like to talk it through, give me a call.

What I wish I knew at 18

If I invested just $200/month starting at age 18 and earned an average 8% annual return, by age 65 I could have:

💰 Contributed: $112,800
📈 Portfolio value: $1,242,476

That’s over $1.1 million in growth from simply starting early.

Most people think becoming a millionaire requires a high income. The truth is, consistency and time matter more than perfection.

An 18-year-old who invests $200/month could potentially build a 7-figure portfolio by retirement age.

Start before you feel ready.
Stay consistent.
Trust the process.

The best time to start investing was yesterday. The second-best time is today.

What’s one money lesson you wish you learned earlier?
