Why More South Mississauga Homeowners Are Reconsidering Their Pools
I’ve been noticing something for quite awhile now with long-term homeowners in South Mississauga.
A lot of people are quietly reaching the point where they’re simply tired of their pools.
Not because they regret having one.
But because after 20+ years, the maintenance, repairs, opening, closing, equipment replacement, and constant upkeep starts feeling more like work than enjoyment.
What’s interesting though is buyers are completely split on pools right now.
Some buyers absolutely love them and specifically want that backyard lifestyle.
Others immediately see:
liability
safety concerns for small children
maintenance
and future expenses
And honestly, both sides make valid arguments.
Two things I consistently notice during showings:
Tired pools create uncertainty
Buyers with little or no pool experience often become apprehensive very quickly
Not necessarily because the pool is neglected.
Sometimes it’s simply an older pool that starts making buyers wonder what repairs or costs could be coming next.
At the same time, there’s also real value in having an established pool already in place. Building a new one today is incredibly expensive, disruptive, and time consuming, which is why some buyers still see a good existing pool as a major lifestyle feature rather than a liability.
That’s what makes this such an interesting real estate conversation right now. There are genuinely strong opinions on both sides.
I wrote this article because I’ve literally been having this conversation with friends, neighbours, clients, and buyers for years now.
