Would you cross a city off your home search because of something someone said, or because you’ve actually explored it?

Before you rule out Welland, give it more than a drive-through.

1️⃣ Explore around the address.
Walk the surrounding streets, look at neighbouring properties, and visit at different times. One street doesn’t tell you what an entire city is like.

2️⃣ Try your everyday routine.
Check the journey to work, groceries, childcare, and activities. A home needs to work on your busiest weekday, not just during a Sunday showing.

3️⃣ Spend time outside the house.
Walk beside the recreational canal, explore the area, and notice whether you could picture yourself spending time there regularly.

Welland won’t be everyone’s fit. But your decision deserves more than an outdated opinion or someone else’s experience.

Thinking about high schools while choosing where to live in Niagara? I chose these three because they ranked as Niagara’s top three publicly funded high schools in the 2025 Fraser Institute report card:

🥉 E. L. Crossley Secondary School, Fonthill
🥈 Eden High School, St. Catharines
🥇 Saint Paul Catholic High School, Niagara Falls

Rankings are one way to compare schools, but they don’t tell the whole story. School boundaries, programs, commute and your child’s needs matter too. Check the current options for a specific address before you buy.

That bigger backyard looks great. But how will life work once you move in?

If you’re moving to Niagara with kids, here are 3 things to check before choosing your neighbourhood:

1️⃣ School and childcare logistics.
Confirm which school serves the address, check childcare availability and picture the daily drop-off and pickup routine.

2️⃣ What’s nearby—and easy to get to.
Parks, libraries and activities matter more when they’re convenient enough to use regularly. Can you walk there with the kids, or does every outing require the car?

3️⃣ Your busiest weekday.
Test the commute when you’d actually be driving it. Think through work, pickup, groceries and getting home for dinner—not just how the neighbourhood feels during a weekend showing.

St. Catharines offers completely different lifestyles depending on where you live—from the established streets of Martindale and Grapeview to the character of Old Glenridge, the waterfront atmosphere of Port Dalhousie, the newer homes of Power Glen and the housing variety of the North End.

The best neighbourhood isn’t the same for everyone. It depends on the home you want, the lifestyle you enjoy and what you need nearby.

Coffee, restaurants, parks or waterfront trails? If walking to things matters to you, make that part of your search from the beginning.

2️⃣ Where will you need to go every week?
Work, school, family visits and activities all shape your routine. Think about how each location would work for your everyday life.

3️⃣ What does “more space” mean to you?
An extra bedroom? A bigger backyard? Privacy from neighbours? Being specific helps you focus on homes and communities that actually meet your needs.

A beautiful house is only part of the decision. You’re choosing the surroundings you’ll live with every day, too.

Niagara home prices are down more than 6%, but that doesn’t tell the whole story for buyers and sellers.

1⃣ Sales are picking up. More homes sold this August than last August. Buyers are active, even though they’re still taking their time and comparing their options.

2⃣ Fewer new listings are coming onto the market. That matters if you’re buying. A lower price doesn’t automatically mean you’ll have unlimited choices or the same negotiating room on every home.

3⃣ There’s still roughly six months of inventory. Sellers need to price and present their homes carefully. Buyers have options, but a well positioned home can still get attention.
