Storage is one of the most underrated factors when selling a home.

Buyers are always looking for more space, and one of the quickest ways to make your home feel larger is by creating breathing room in your closets and cabinets.

The mistake many sellers make is treating storage as a place to hide clutter before a showing.

The problem?

Packed closets often have the opposite effect.

When buyers open a closet that's overflowing with clothes, boxes and miscellaneous items, they don't think "great storage." They think "not enough storage."

Perception matters.

A closet that's only half full immediately feels larger, more functional and easier to live with. It helps buyers visualize their own belongings fitting comfortably into the space.

Before listing your home, consider removing 30% to 50% of the contents from:

✔ Bedroom closets

✔ Linen cupboards

✔ Kitchen cabinets

✔ Pantries

✔ Storage rooms

Then neatly organize what's left.

The goal isn't perfection. The goal is creating a sense of space.

And yes, buyers absolutely open closets.

They open cabinets.

They check pantries.

Storage is valuable, and most buyers want to understand exactly what they're getting.

As REALTORS®, one of the simplest pieces of advice we give sellers is to declutter before photography and showings. It costs little to nothing but can have a significant impact on how spacious a home feels both online and in person.

Remember, buyers aren't comparing your home to how you live.

They're comparing it to every other property they've seen.

The more open, organized and spacious your home feels, the easier it becomes for buyers to picture themselves living there.

And when buyers can picture themselves living there, stronger offers often follow.

Space sells. Sometimes it's not about adding square footage. It's about showcasing the space you already have.

Humans naturally love symmetry.

We’re wired for it.

Balanced spaces feel calming, structured and emotionally safe without people even understanding WHY.

That’s why symmetry is one of the easiest ways to instantly make a home feel more expensive.

👉 Two matching lamps
👉 Two chairs
👉 Matching bedside tables
👉 Balanced styling

Simple.

But incredibly powerful.

Luxury interiors rarely feel random.

Everything feels intentional.

Placed with purpose.

And symmetry creates that feeling immediately.

This is why high-end hotels, luxury developments and designer homes constantly use symmetrical layouts.

Because balance creates visual calm.

And visual calm feels premium.

One of the biggest mistakes people make when styling a space is pushing everything to one side or creating awkward visual weight imbalance.

For example:

A giant lamp on one side of a sofa and nothing on the other.

Or one tiny bedside table beside a large bed.

It subconsciously feels “off.”

Even if people can’t articulate it.

Symmetry creates rhythm.

It guides the eye naturally through a room.

And it makes spaces photograph beautifully which is incredibly important in modern real estate marketing.

Balanced rooms also tend to feel:

✔ Larger
✔ Cleaner
✔ More organised
✔ More peaceful
✔ More professionally designed

Especially in bedrooms.

Symmetry around a bed creates instant luxury hotel energy.

Matching sconces.
Matching lamps.
Matching nightstands.

Suddenly the room feels elevated.

The same applies to living rooms.

Two accent chairs opposite a sofa instantly create structure.

Matching cushions create consistency.

Balanced decor creates harmony.

Now importantly:

Symmetry does NOT mean boring.

This is where people get confused.

You can still create personality through:

✔ Texture
✔ Artwork
✔ Materials
✔ Shapes
✔ Colour tones

But the overall visual balance should still feel intentional.

Luxury design is often about controlled restraint.

Not randomness.

And honestly…

Most expensive interiors are actually very simple underneath.

They just execute fundamentals extremely well.

And symmetry is one of the biggest fundamentals of all.

Because balance creates calm.

And calm sells.

Short answer:
Yes, in many cases you can.

But probate sales come with extra moving parts, paperwork, and legal considerations that need to be handled properly.

For anyone unfamiliar, probate is the legal process that confirms the authority of an estate trustee or executor to deal with a deceased person’s assets, including real estate.

In Ontario, whether or not a home can be listed before probate is completed depends on the specific situation, the estate structure, and guidance from the lawyer handling the estate.

Sometimes a property can be marketed while probate is underway.
Sometimes it makes more sense to wait.

This is why having the right professionals around you matters.

Because probate sales are not your average transaction.

👉 There are timelines.
👉 Legal documents.
👉 Estate responsibilities.
👉 Family considerations.
👉 Court processes.
👉 Buyer concerns.

And if handled poorly, things can get messy fast.

A Realtor experienced with estate and probate sales can help coordinate with lawyers, guide the process strategically, communicate clearly with buyers, and reduce unnecessary stress during what is already a difficult time for many families.

The goal is not just to sell the property.

It’s to protect the estate, maximize value, and make the process as smooth as possible from start to finish.

If you’re navigating a probate situation and have questions, getting professional advice early can save a massive amount of time, money, and frustration later.

Nothing destroys a clean space faster than visible cables.

Seriously.

You can have a beautiful TV setup.
A stunning desk.
Premium lighting.
Designer furniture.

But the second people see tangled cords hanging everywhere…

The illusion breaks instantly.

Because exposed cables create visual chaos.

And chaos feels cheap.

This is one of those details people rarely consciously notice when it’s done WELL…

But they absolutely notice when it’s done badly.

Luxury design is heavily about friction removal.

The goal is to make spaces feel effortless.

Seamless.
Intentional.

Visible cords do the opposite.

They remind people that everything is plugged in, temporary, messy and unresolved.

Especially in modern homes where minimalism and clean architecture dominate.

Nothing ruins a floating TV unit faster than black cords dangling down the wall.

Nothing cheapens a home office faster than cable spaghetti under the desk.

Nothing kills premium kitchen styling faster than random chargers and appliance cords everywhere.

High-end spaces feel calm because visual distractions are reduced.

That’s why luxury homes often hide:

✔ Routers
✔ Chargers
✔ Power boards
✔ TV boxes
✔ Monitor cables
✔ Gaming systems
✔ Desk cords
✔ Kitchen appliances

The cleaner the lines…

The more architectural the home feels.

And architectural always feels more expensive.

This matters MASSIVELY in real estate photography too.

Because photos exaggerate clutter.

A single visible cord suddenly becomes the focal point of the image.

Especially against white walls or minimal interiors.

One messy cable can subconsciously downgrade an otherwise beautiful room.

People underestimate how much subconscious processing happens during property walkthroughs.

Buyers are constantly scanning for signs of:

👉 Disorganisation
👉 Poor attention to detail
👉 Lack of care

Visible cords feed into that feeling.

Meanwhile hidden cables communicate:

👉 Precision
👉 Intentionality
👉 Professional styling

Even if buyers don’t consciously realise why the space feels better.

And honestly…

Once you start noticing cables in interiors…

You’ll never unsee them again.

Small detail.
Massive difference.
