I get it. It seems like so much work. The good news? You can start anytime, on your own terms.
1. Sort your things into these categories, and your mountain will become little piles:
> What you’ll keep
Limit this to what matters to you most. In other words, what’s needed and practical, and what you love and makes you happy.
> What you’ll give away
Are there sentimental things you’re unsure of? Consider giving them to a friend or relative that will appreciate them. Or donate them to a charity. You need to make room for your future memories ahead.
> What you’ll sell
Try to get some cash for the rest. You can sell it online or have a yard sale. This can help your moving costs. If some of it doesn’t sell…(read on)
> What you’ll trash
If it didn’t make the other lists, there’s no reason to keep it. Make a clean break and feel the freedom!
2. Now, the house…
You have memories in your home that potential buyers don’t. It’s important to try not to let your emotions get in your own way.
> So what’s the deal with staging, for real?
Buyers need to be able to imagine themselves living there. Your home needs to show space and potential uses for those spaces. Staging accomplishes both.
> Don’t allow yourself to take offence
Showings: Some of the feedback will be negative. Some of that may be a buyers strategy to make a low offer, but you’re priced right and your home’s staged well, so allow me to deal with that.
Home inspections: It’s an inspector’s job to find problems. Let me guide you through that.
3. And now the sale…
Even a low offer is an opportunity. Buyers don’t usually offer their best price at first, so don’t jump to conclusions. I know how to work with offers to get things done. Let me help navigate any offers where you can pull out a win.
HOW DOWNSIZING COULD BENEFIT YOU?
I’ll start by showing you how to price your home. Then we’ll explore what’s possible for your next home.
If your neighbours tell you what they or anyone else sold their home for, take it with a grain of salt. Get it verified with proof that I can give you. You can’t afford misinformation.
