Muchísimas gracias a toda la gente de La Arepera Du Plateau, en la calle Prince-Arthur, por haber convertido este fin de año en un auténtico sueño hecho realidad. Nos recibieron con tanto amor y tanto cariño que lograron que tanto mi bello Mono como yo disfrutáramos de la más espectacular de las comidas Venezolanas en Montreal. Una experiencia inolvidable para cerrar este año cómo se merece: con emoción, cosas exquisitas, con alegría y, por supuesto, con broche de oro.

Choosing the words with which to close this year has invited me into deep reflection—on what truly matters, not only to me, but to all of us. What follows may be a modest attempt to plant a seed: not to change the course of every life, but perhaps to influence the lives that touch yours. For in the end, we are remembered not for our intentions, but for our actions.

For Christmas, I wanted two very specific things. I knew my friends had no idea about either of them, but I told myself that if—by some small miracle of the universe—I received one, I’d be absolutely thrilled.

That didn’t happen, so today I decided to treat myself.

The objects of desire: a fawn lamp, and an enamel coffee mug printed like a classic maple syrup can, complete with a little open-and-close sipping lid. Both from Marché St-Laurent.

I first went to the shop facing the cathedral. They do have two fawn lamps, but they’re keeping them for their display—and the mug? Sold out.

Undeterred, I headed to their location in the Palais des congrès. No mug there either.

As I was arriving, the salesgirl was struggling with the key to open the door. I casually said, “You have to push it in, turn gently to the right, then quickly back to the left.” It worked instantly.

She looked at me and asked, “How did you know that?”

Simple answer: I’m a real estate broker. I battle keys daily.

So yes—I was clearly meant to be there today… just not for the reasons I had in mind.

Walked out empty handed! Oh well!!

Ho ho ho. Ha ha ha.
