When the interest rates drop, you can lock in the current rate at the time of closing, which might be lower than the rate you are currently locked in at.

Holding at 5%: The Bank of Canada announces a sixth consecutive rate hold, maintaining its key lending rate at 5%.

The central bank said that "While inflation is still too high and risks remain, CPI and core inflation have eased further in recent months. The Council will be looking for evidence that this downward momentum is sustained."

The next scheduled announcement is June 5th.
