♿💦 Because everyone deserves to get in the lake.

One of the accessibility features at Watters Edge Cottage that means the most to us is our dock lift.

Here’s Shawn using it to transfer directly from the dock into the lake. There's no trying to navigate uneven shoreline or figure out an unsafe transfer.

The water is shallow off the dock, making it a great spot to cool off, float and enjoy the lake on a beautiful summer day. ☀️

Watters Edge was created from our own experience travelling and spending time at the cottage with a wheelchair user. We know how much the little details can determine whether someone simply visits the lake or actually gets to experience it.

We’re looking forward to welcoming guests back in Summer 2027 and sharing more of the accessibility features along the way. 💙

Living at Watters Edge full-time over the past year has given me the chance to really explore the area so I can share local information with future guests.

Today’s walk took me from the cottage to Beaver Lake Park, and I came across a few things worth knowing:

🚶 County trail maps if you’re looking to explore beyond the lake.

🎣 Information about the fish and wildlife found in Beaver Lake.

🚂 The historic Erinsville train station, where you can learn about the area’s railway history.

🍦 The former Beaver Lake Variety, which sadly burned down this past winter. The debris has finally been cleaned up, and while it’s bittersweet to see it gone, I’m looking forward to seeing who purchases the property and what comes next. Like many locals, we miss the convenience of walking over for ice cream, snacks, or those last-minute essentials. I have so many memories of walking over or pontooning over after dinner with Shawn and the kids and my mom for ice cream 🥰

🏖️ The new Neville Point Beach sign is also a helpful reminder that swimming lessons take place there on weekdays during the day in July and August. When the beach is closed during lesson times, Beaver Lake Park also offers public beach access, giving guests another great spot to cool off since Watters Edge has waterfront access but no beach.

Sometimes the best part of a cottage vacation is taking a walk and discovering the history and stories that make a community so special.

After 18 years of caregiving, I thought I’d seen every wheelchair feature there was.

Then Shawn’s new power chair arrived with a joystick on the back so I can drive when he needs a hand.

Needless to say, my shoulders are wondering where this little invention has been all these years. 😂

Sometimes it’s the smallest innovations that make the biggest difference, not just for the person using the chair, but for the caregiver too. 💙

Smoke is drifting into our area from active wildfires in Northern Ontario. This has resulted in hazy skies, reduced visibility and poor air quality.

During these times, here are some tips to keep in mind.
1. Those with respiratory issues should take caution when outside for periods of time.
2. If you only notice a smell of smoke and do not see any active fire, pause and confirm that there is an active fire before calling 9-1-1.
3. For up to date forecasts on the smoke conditions, go to https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/

Thank you for staying safe and keeping emergency lines available for those who need them most.

This peaceful nature walk was filmed last fall, just as the leaves were starting to change, and it’s still one of my favourite local spots.

I’m definitely a fair-weather walker so give me cool days over the summer heat any time! But if you’re visiting on a warm day, ending your walk with a refreshing dip in Mud Lake would be hard to beat.

What makes Menzel Centennial Provincial Nature Reserve so unique is the variety of ecosystems you’ll experience along the trail. As you wander through the reserve, you’ll pass through several distinct natural habitats, each marked with interpretive signs. Be sure to stop at the information board at the trailhead to learn more about this special protected area before you begin.

If you’re staying at Watters Edge Cottage and looking for a peaceful way to explore the area, this nature walk is only a short drive and one of my favourite hidden gems.
