Pictou County is a wonderful community in which to live and work. After many successful years listing and selling homes, I limit my listing inventory and transitioned my focus to include residential consulting and to helping families, couples and singles to find the perfect home here. I chose real estate as my career after ten years of teaching. I enjoy it as much today as I did when I began to sell homes in 1978 by joining my Mom, who founded the company, in the business. Serving BUYERS in Pictou County, a wonderful community in which to live and work. My preferred area of real estate is buyer representation, select listings and residential consulting. Helping families, couples and singles to find their perfect home in our community, and navigating the ever increasing challenges of the home buying and selling process, is my priority. It was one of the most rewarding decisions I have ever made. I enjoy it as much today as I did when I began to sell homes in 1978, by joining my Mom, who founded the company, in the business. I am a graduate of Acadia University with a B.A. and am the Broker/Owner of Coldwell Banker M B Green Realty. I also hold a CRA, Retired designation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada. My current community service includes serving on both the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® federal Political Action Committee (PAC) and on the Diversity Committee. Recent past service includes retiring in April 2021 from the Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission as a Director and as Chair of the Recovery Fund, and as Co Chair of the Nova Scotia Real Estate Association Diversity Task Force, and in 2018 as Past Chair of the Aberdeen Health Foundation after twelve years of service. Past service includes two terms each on the Boards of the Pictou Regional Development Commission and The United Way of Pictou County. I am passionate about helping to make our community and even better place to live and to work. Forty plus years of helping people achieve their real estate dreams on both the buying and the selling side has given me the experience to handle the many challenges that can arise when bringing homes sales to a satisfactory close. Check out the robust housing platforms for the parties in this election. There are several proposals that will really scale up getting Canadians housed. NSAR and CREA have been instrumental for decades in having meaningful housing policies implemented through our advocacy work with the MPs in all the political parties.

PROPERTY ASSESSMENTS are arriving in the mail and it is creating alarm in some property owners, even those lucky enough to still be protected on how much property tax they have to pay, because they enjoy a capped assessment. This is my personal opinion on the situation.

It is the “lift” that municipalities enjoy when assessment go up across the board that causes the financial stress to property owners, if the municipalities do not lower their mil rate to account for the increase in assessments, minus the increase in their budget increase.
On an individual basis, if you would not sell your home for your new market assessment, it is likely either just about right or it is still too low.
We need a revamped assessment system where the cap goes away and fairness reigns for all property owners. The good intentions for bringing in the cap have long been overcome by unintended negative consequences.
