Great news
In the 1970s, Nepal was facing an environmental crisis, with forests degrading due to livestock grazing and fuelwood harvesting. In response to this, Nepal’s government reassessed their forest management practices and handed over national forest work to community forest groups. NASA Earth satellite imagery show forest cover in Nepal in 1992 (top) and 2016 (bottom) with forest cover almost doubling from 26% to 45%!
We love these innovative, community-centered ways of caring for the planet. Shoutout to Nepal forests! 👏🌳
