Buying a home is such an exciting milestone — but it’s also a really good time to think about protecting everything you’re working so hard to build. 🏡

If you’re already meeting with a lawyer for your closing, ask whether they also prepare wills and Powers of Attorney📝

You already have many of your important documents and financial details together, you’re already discussing ownership of one of your biggest assets, and you already have a lawyer involved. In many cases, handling these conversations around the same time can make the process feel much easier and more efficient than putting it off and having to start from scratch later👍🏻

Depending on your lawyer, there may still be a separate fee for preparing your will — but asking about it while you’re already working together could save you another appointment, additional administrative steps and the hassle of trying to tackle it months or years down the road✅

And even if you think, “I don’t really have anything to leave behind,” or that a will isn’t important yet — it is. A will isn’t only about having a large estate. It’s about giving your family clear direction and helping remove some of the uncertainty, stress and difficult decisions during an already emotional time
