A showing can go by quickly, especially when you’re excited about a home. While the kitchen, layout, and finishes usually get most of the attention, some of the smaller details can have a much bigger impact once you actually live there.
🏡 Test the Everyday Flow: Think about where you’d drop groceries, coats, shoes, backpacks, or dog leashes. A home can look beautiful but still feel awkward in day-to-day life.
🏡 Notice the Natural Light: Pay attention to which rooms feel bright and which rely heavily on artificial lighting. The direction a home faces can make a noticeable difference throughout the day.
🏡 Listen for Noise: Take a quiet moment inside and outside. Traffic, nearby businesses, mechanical systems, neighbours, or train tracks may be easier to notice once you stop talking.
🏡 Look at Storage Differently: Don’t just count closets. Consider whether there’s actually space for seasonal items, cleaning supplies, pantry goods, sports equipment, and everything else you own.
🏡 Check the Little Conveniences: Outlet locations, bathroom placement, laundry access, parking, and the route from the garage to the kitchen may seem minor, but you’ll interact with them constantly.
The best home isn’t always the one that makes the biggest first impression. Sometimes it’s the one that quietly makes everyday life easier.
