You can usually feel
when the pace of a decision starts changing.
The conversations get faster.
The timelines tighten.
Someone who wanted to think things through
starts wanting the decision over with.
That happens more than people realize
in high-pressure moments.
Especially around offers.
Because once enough emotion,
urgency, opinions, or fear enter the process,
people stop reacting
to the decision itself.
They start reacting
to how intense the process feels.
And sometimes the most important part
of our job is slowing things down enough
for someone to hear themselves think again.
Not to delay the decision.
Just to make sure
the pressure of the moment
isn’t making the decision for them.
