LiDAR/Imaging surveys of coastal shorelines have become the survey method of choice for biologists and engineers when conducting physical and biological site characterization and geometric control for shoreline habitat features. This site was located along a busy transportation corridor from a Metro Vancouver Port Facility. We rapidly collected comprehensive accurate 3D point data and high resolution georeferenced imagery using our TrueView 535 3D Imaging Sensor over 2.5km of shoreline at low tide.

Spitfire is excited to announce that we have upgraded our 3D Imaging System from the TrueView 515 to the new and improved TrueView 535. The TrueView 535 builds upon the success of the TrueView 515 with key notable additions including triple beam returns to improve vegetation pe*******on, a third nadir camera to improve photogrammetry deliverables and a longer usable LiDAR range to allow for higher flying heights resulting in safer and more efficient data collection.
The Pacific West Coast is one of the most challenging regions to survey via drone LiDAR scanning technology. Due to the Pacific West Coasts characteristics of tall old growth forests, dense undergrowth vegetation and steep mountainous terrain, it is critical that the proper equipment and sensors are used for the job. With the Trueview535’s 32 LiDAR beams pulsing at 640kHz repetition rate and each returning up to three returns the Trueview 535 is one of the best drone LiDAR units for penetrating tree canopy and other vegetation. The TrueView 535 still maintains the high accuracy and precisions (approx. 3cm) we have come to expect from Trueview LiDAR units making it the ideal drone LiDAR payload for Pacific West Coast Mapping.

The airborne TrueView 515 laser scanner carried on the DJI M300 RTK has the ability to output over 640,000 laser pulses per second. This allows us to pe*****te through forested areas and extract ground data to create accurate ground models.

We used the new DJI M300RTK drone to carry a Yellowscan LiDAR system for high density point cloud creation. This allows the client to visualize and analyze view corridors as well as assisting the civil engineers and constructors in their planning, design and earthworks calculations by using the bare ground surface model.
