Keep or Paint?
🅰️ Painted
🅱️ Original Gumwood
Which would you choose?
Before paint became the trend, many Oakville homes featured beautifully crafted gumwood trim, doors, and millwork. Known for its fine grain, warm colour, and exceptional craftsmanship, gumwood was often stained to showcase its natural beauty rather than hidden beneath paint.
A defining feature of many homes built between 1910 and 1940, gumwood added richness, warmth, and architectural character to entryways, staircases, dining rooms, and living spaces. More than a century later, many of these original details remain—a testament to the quality of the craftsmanship of the era.
Today, homeowners often face a design decision: preserve the original woodwork or paint it for a lighter, more contemporary look.
