Selling a longtime family home can be exciting… but it can also feel like a lot.

Most people underestimate how emotional and overwhelming downsizing can be until they’re in it — sorting through years of memories, trying to decide what comes next, and managing all the moving pieces at the same time.

What I’ve found is that having a plan early makes all the difference. Not just for the move itself, but for reducing stress along the way.

A few things I always tell clients:

• Start planning before you need to move
• Figure out the financial picture before making big decisions
• Keep only what truly fits the next chapter
• Be realistic about the space that fits your life

Sometimes my job is selling the house. A lot of the time, it’s helping people navigate everything around it — timelines, preparations, trusted contacts, problem-solving, and all the little details that can feel overwhelming during a transition.
