Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦
As we celebrate this beautiful country we call home, I thought I’d share some facts about 111 Wellington St, Ottawa, ON, better known as Parliament Hill.
Built in 1866, this beautiful property features over 550 windows and overlooks the Rideau River.
✨ Why Was It Built?
Parliament Hill was designed to be the heart of Canada’s democracy — a place for leadership, decision-making, and representing the people. Think of it as the ultimate “head office” — with some pretty impressive curb appeal.
✨ Why There — Ottawa?
When Queen Victoria picked Ottawa back in 1857, it wasn’t just about good looks (though the views over the Ottawa River are stunning 😉). Here’s why this prime location was chosen:
✔️ Security: Ottawa sat safely away from the American border during tense times — a strategic choice for protecting Canada’s future.
✔️ Accessibility: Nestled between Ontario and Quebec, it was the perfect neutral, central location to unite English and French Canada.
✔️ Natural Beauty: Perched on a limestone bluff overlooking the Ottawa River — this spot offered unbeatable views and a commanding presence.
✔️ Room to Grow: With 88 acres of land, there was space for grand architecture, green space, and Canada’s biggest national celebrations — like today!
158 years later, Parliament Hill still stands proudly — proof that with the right location and vision, a property can shape history.
