I grew up in Scarborough and lived there from 2001.
To me, that felt normal.
Busy roads. Smaller homes. Long commutes. Always feeling like we needed more space.
But in 2022, my family made the move to Durham Region.
And after helping families relocate here ever since, I keep hearing the same things over and over.
1️⃣ More space for your money
We sold our condo townhouse and moved into a detached home with a big backyard.
For many families, that’s the biggest surprise.
The budget that buys a townhouse in parts of Toronto can often buy a detached home in Durham.
2️⃣ Durham doesn’t feel as busy
The pace is different.
Less traffic.
Less noise.
More room to breathe.
Many families tell me they didn’t realize how much they needed that until they moved.
3️⃣ Durham keeps growing
Durham is now home to more than 815,000 people.
New schools.
New communities.
New parks.
New businesses.
It’s one of the fastest growing regions in Canada.
4️⃣ Family life feels different here
This is probably my favourite part.
Kids playing outside.
Neighbours saying hello.
Parks, trails, sports fields, and waterfronts everywhere.
It’s one of the reasons we chose to raise our family here.
5️⃣ You’re still connected to Toronto
A lot of people think moving to Durham means moving far away.
Not really.
The GO Train, 401, and 407 keep you connected to the GTA while giving you more home and more lifestyle.
When we moved east, we weren’t looking for perfection.
We were looking for a better fit for our family.
Three years later, we’re still thankful we made the move.
That’s why so many Toronto families are choosing Durham.
DM me the word GUIDE and I’ll send you my Durham Region neighbourhood guide where you can see the population, median age, median home price, median income, school ratings, and what each community is really like before deciding where to buy.
