As of July 1, 2020, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) will be tightening its requirements for home buyers.

Buyers without at least a 20% down payment will have a harder time qualifying for an insured mortgage; they will no longer be able to borrow money for a down payment, credit scores will need to be higher, and debt ratios lower to ensure that they can keep up with payments.
