Ottawa home prices remain stubbornly solid according to the June statistics released by the Ottawa Real Estate Board. The average resale price of a home in Ottawa in June was $733,648, up marginally by 1.3 percent from last year. This is good news for Sellers who, while seeing sales prices remain firm, are realizing that the pace of the market has slowed. The number of sales in June 2026 was down 5 percent from last June, and the Median Days on Market has climbed to an average of 22 days, up from 14 days three years ago. Firming prices, particularly for single-family homes, should encourage more Buyers to get off of the fence and make a move. 🚨 Reminder: New Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Rules Effective Jan 1, 2026!

Ontario is updating its Fire Code — and whether you’re a homeowner, tenant, or landlord in Ottawa, here’s what you need to know:

✔ Smoke alarms are required on every floor and outside all sleeping areas.
✔ New for 2026: Carbon monoxide alarms must now be installed on every floor of your home if you have fuel-burning appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage — not just near bedrooms.

👉 This applies to houses, townhouses, condos and apartments — so check your alarms and plan upgrades before the deadline. Working alarms can save lives — don’t wait! 🔐

🚮 Blue & Black Bin Collection Changes – Starting January 1, 2026 ♻️

Big changes are coming to recycling collection across Ontario — including Ottawa.

As of January 1, 2026, the City of Ottawa will no longer collect blue and black bins. Recycling collection will be handled by Circular Materials, with Miller Waste Services doing the pickups.

What you need to know:
• Put bins out by 7:00 a.m. on your regular collection day
• Pick-up times may change and a different truck will be used
• You can keep using your existing blue and black bins
• More items will be recyclable, including plastic bags, toothpaste tubes, and deodorant
• Recycling issues (missed pickup, broken bins) will no longer go through the City
