700%. That is how much senior homelessness has risen in Waterloo Region in just five years.

Canada’s seniors worked hard, paid taxes, and helped build our country. Now they are being priced out of housing and forced into homelessness.

This is the result of more than a decade of failed Liberal housing policies.

Conservatives will continue to fight for seniors and all Canadians to have access to affordable housing across the country.

26 women. One iconic London sisterhood.

These women weren’t interested in aging quietly alone, so they built Britain’s first female-only co-housing community for older women. The complex is made up of 25 flats, plus plenty of shared spaces to garden, cook, watch movies, laugh, and live life together.

Think less “retirement home,” more “Golden-Girls-meets-dream-commune.” And there’s one very important distinction: they’re here to look out for one another, not after one another.

"It’s just nice to have other people around when you want them," resident Vivien Sheehan, 79, says. ""The onus is on really not being lonely, but it’s so fabulous because you can be lonely if you want to," said Mags Beltran, 77.

Nest Egg Canada
🇨🇦 we are completely ready to start building a community that will create unique ,shared living situations with zero drama and excellent leadership.

How can you jump onboard?

We value your ideas and thoughts!

There will always be people who question your potential, underestimate your journey, or doubt what you’re capable of becoming.

But instead of letting that discourage you, let it fuel your focus.
Because while they’re watching, you’re building. While they’re doubting, you’re improving. And while they’re talking, you’re becoming undeniable.

The best response to doubt is results. Quiet consistency. Relentless growth. And a life that speaks for itself.

Let them watch—but give them something worth seeing.
If you’re focused on your glow-up, drop a 🔥 in the comments.

Catherine Landry and I started this group specifically for women looking for a different and wonderful way of housing. As a mortgage broker and someone who is well versed in the real estate market I’m curious if anyone would be interested in a zoom meeting so we can discuss co housing and how we can make it a reality here in Ottawa. Europe is tackling the housing crisis for women by shifting toward gender-sensitive policies.

Initiatives include expanding "Housing First" programs for women fleeing violence, targeting single mothers in social housing, and fighting energy poverty.

The EU is also leveraging funding and appointing its first Housing Commissioner to address these systemic gender disparities.Because women in Europe face higher poverty rates, precarious employment, and disproportionate caregiving burdens, generic housing solutions often fall short.

To handle these specific vulnerabilities, the approach involves several key strategies:Expanding Specialized "Housing First": Many traditional homeless shelters are unsafe or unsuitable for women, especially those fleeing domestic violence
Across Europe, there is a push to adapt the Housing First model to prioritize women-specific support services and secure, permanent homes.

Targeting Single Mothers: Mothers—who represent a significant portion of single-parent households—are frequently pushed to the brink by rising housing and energy costs, and are highly vulnerable to hidden forms of homelessness like "sofa-surfing". To combat this, organizations and local governments are pushing for affordable housing to be designated as a key pillar for ending inequality.

Tackling Energy Poverty: Women are more susceptible to energy poverty due to longer life expectancies and spending more time in inefficient, poorly heated homes while handling unpaid care work. The EU is focusing green transition and renovation efforts to prioritize vulnerable tenants and safeguard affordability.Broader EU

Action Plans:

Recognizing that housing as a financial asset is driving inequality, the European Union has made this a top priority, establishing the European Housing Alliance and the first-ever dedicated Commissioner for Housing.Resources to explore how Europe is analyzing and correcting these gender-based housing inequalities include:
