Today, April 28 marks the National Day of Mourning —a time to reflect on the workers who have been lost, injured, or affected by workplace incidents.

At Morley Hoppner, we hold these families close in our hearts. Safety isn’t just something we practice — it’s something we truly care about. It’s a reminder that the work we do matters—not just in what we build, but in how we look out for one another every day.

As part of this community, we believe that protecting each other is a shared responsibility. Today, and every day, we stand by our commitment: Everyone Gets Home Safe.

It was a pleasure to take part in the 2026 OCA Symposium and Tradeshow this year!

The event was a great opportunity to connect with industry peers, partners, and clients, and to be part of the conversations shaping our construction industry. Events like this are always such a welcome reminder of the collaboration that drives so much of what we do every day.

Thank you to the Ottawa Construction Association for hosting, and thank you to our MHI team—David Kachuki, Kathy Downs, Brian Davis, Brian Morley, and Jasmin Brisson—for representing us at this great event!

As we recognize Women in Construction Week, March 1 to 7, and celebrate International Women’s Day this Sunday, March 8, we’re proud to highlight the talented women helping shape our industry.

Today we’re introducing Brooke, a valued member of the Morley Hoppner team. With five years in construction—including the past three with Morley Hoppner—Brooke has taken on a wide range of responsibilities, from site safety and carpentry work to operating a Zoom Boom and supporting winter maintenance and repairs. Her versatility and willingness to step in wherever needed help keep our projects moving forward.

Inspired by her dad’s passion for carpentry, Brooke followed in his footsteps and found a career she loves.

Her advice for women considering construction: believe in yourself, stay true to who you are, and trust your abilities.

We’re proud to celebrate Brooke and the many women who inspire, lead, and support those around them every day. From the job site to the office, women continue to shape our industry through their talent, dedication, and leadership.

On this Remembrance Day, we honour the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering service of those who have defended our freedom—and those who continue to serve our country today.

We invite you to pause for a moment of silence to reflect on their courage, acknowledge their dedication, and ensure their legacy is never forgotten.

Today, September 30, we pause to honour residential school survivors, the children who never returned home, their families, and communities.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time for reflection, learning, and action. It calls on each of us to listen, acknowledge, and recognize the lasting impacts of residential schools and the truths shared by Survivors.

At MHI, we are committed to fostering understanding and reconciliation by continuing to learn and reflect on how we can contribute to meaningful change.

We encourage everyone to take time today to wear orange, participate in community events, and reflect on the stories that must never be forgotten.
