🚨 More Transparency at the Landlord and Tenant Board! 🚨
Today marks a positive step toward greater transparency in Ontario's rental housing system.
Effective today, the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) has begun publishing final orders issued between January and May 2026 to the Ontario Government's Open Data Catalogue. Historical orders dating back to 2021 will be added in phases, and new final orders will be published monthly going forward.
Why does this matter?
Both landlords and tenants now have another free, publicly available resource to research past LTB decisions. Along with existing resources like CanLII, this provides another tool to help people better understand how the LTB has decided previous cases before entering into a tenancy.
That said, it's important to keep one thing in mind: every LTB case is unique.
An order tells the story of one dispute, based on one set of facts and evidence. It should never be used on its own to judge a landlord or tenant. Due diligence means looking at the full picture - not just a single decision.
