Housing sales in Ottawa have been "Ho-Hum" for 2026 to date. Fewer sales, lower prices for condos but single homes have risen marginally. Overall a good time to invest in a real estate bargain. The Bank of Canada announced it did nothing today. Interest rates hold firm. Marvelous financial policy bound to influence the real estate market. Somehow.

Another rate drop from the Bank of Canada! 2.75% prime is step in the right direction for buyers and housing affordability. Too bad it seems mostly to be a reaction to market uncertainty. Interesting to see the prices for Canada's big cities. Ottawa is still half price compared to Vancouver, with Toronto not far behind! Price trends are still downwards, despite lowering interest rates. A good time to buy!

Market trends may well favour Sellers in the spring of 2025. So the current batch of Bank Repos (must be sold!) could offer some good opportunities.

Data shows 36% of listings in Ontario were cancelled in September, well above the historical average, according to economist Darren King.

Great News!!!!

The Bank of Canada has announced a decrease in the overnight rate by 50 basis points to 3.75% and the bank prime rate will decrease to 5.95%.

Not a bad idea to check out the market while prices remain static, but affordability has increased!

Will lowering interest rates create a "rush" on the real estate market? You can now get rates under 5%. Prices are lower than they were in 2022, with no substantial change since last year. Lower prices, lower rates: sounds ideal for buyers! However, we aren't seeing any great change in demand. I think 2025 will see a turn-around, but for now it's a Buyer's Market!
