Outdoor Spaces That Earn Their Summer
One thing I notice every spring, both in my own home and in the listings I show, is that outdoor spaces don't need to be elaborate to feel special.
The best ones are simply used.
Usually, the difference comes down to a few simple things: a comfortable chair you actually want to sink into, soft lighting that makes dusk feel cozy, something growing near the door, and little touches that invite you to stay outside a little longer.
๐ A stack of books.
๐งบ A throw blanket.
โ A tray that lives outside all summer.
The spaces that look ready tend to get used more often.
Whether it's a balcony in the Glebe, a small patio in Wellington West, or a backyard in Manotick, it's often those small details that transform an outdoor space from "we have one" into "we live here."
For me, outdoor living has never been about perfection. It's about creating spaces that feel calm, welcoming, and lived in.
