A Parksville realtor is home after completing a life-changing trek through Cambodia in support of the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation — Canada’s largest public foundation dedicated exclusively to funding women’s shelters and domestic violence prevention programs. Royal LePage Realtor Jody Moore of Team Susan Forrest raised a total of $8,300, one of 160 Royal LePage agents from across the country who participated in the Challenge for Shelter: a physically and emotionally demanding, multi-day journey that covered over 100 kilometers of rugged terrain, according to a news release. Together, the group raised more than $1.6 million in support of the Shelter Foundation’s mission.
Eighty per cent of the funds raised by Moore will stay in Parksville and support the Haven Society’s Haven House, with the remaining 20 per cent directed toward national domestic violence prevention programs across Canada. “This experience was deeply moving, both physically and emotionally,” said Moore. “Knowing that our efforts will directly support survivors in our own community made every step through the heat, hills, and jungle terrain worthwhile.” The team recently welcomed a representative from Haven House to their Parksville office, where they presented them with a symbolic “big cheque” to honour Moore’s achievement and the community’s generosity.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Jody and her dedication to this cause,” said Susan Forrest, team leader and long-time Royal LePage agent. “She poured her heart into this trek, and her success reflects both her personal commitment and the kindness of our community.” The foundation has raised more than $41 million since its inception, with 100 per cent of funds raised going directly to women’s shelters and prevention programs across the country, thanks to Royal LePage covering all administrative costs.
