Dr. Jane Purvis

Dr. Jane Purvis Ontario physician | I am an Ontario physician and candidate for President of the Ontario Medical Association.

I am running because physicians—especially early-career doctors—are facing increasing pressure from administrative burden, burnout, scope creep, and uncertainty about the future of medicine. Through my work on the OMA Physician Services Committee and Forms Committee, I have seen that meaningful change is possible. I bring experienced, practical leadership focused on fair physician remuneration, re

ducing unnecessary paperwork, and protecting the practice of medicine. I am committed to a physician-led, forward-looking approach to artificial intelligence that supports professional autonomy and patient care. My goal is a stronger, more sustainable future for Ontario physicians at every stage of their careers.

As the OMA President-Elect election enters its final days, I want to thank colleagues who
have taken the time to connect with me and share their thoughts about the future of our
profession.

Many of the concerns I hear are the same across Ontario: fair remuneration, reducing
administrative burden, supporting family practice, and ensuring physicians remain central to medical decision-making.

The OMA plays an important role in advocating for physicians.
If you have not yet voted in the election, I encourage you to take a moment to do so. I would be very grateful and humbled to have your support.

Today is International Women’s Day, a time to recognize the many contributions of
women across our communities.
Women physicians across Ontario care for patients, lead teams, teach trainees, and help
shape the future of medicine.
As a woman physician running for OMA President-Elect, I am proud to be part of a
profession strengthened by the leadership of so many talented women colleagues.
The OMA election is underway. If you have not yet voted, I encourage you to take a moment

Physicians across Ontario work in very different environments.

Family medicine, specialties, hospitals, community clinics, rural and urban settings all have different realities.

But our profession is strongest when we stand together.

The OMA works best when it brings physicians from all sections and practice models together around shared priorities like fair remuneration, reducing administrative burden, protecting physician autonomy, and strengthening patient care.

Unity does not mean everyone agrees on everything. It means respecting differences while speaking with one strong voice.

The OMA election is now underway. If you have not already voted, please take a moment to do so. I would be grateful and humbled to have your support.

A quick reminder that the OMA election opens on February 23 and runs until March 10.
I am running for OMA President-Elect because I believe Ontario medicine is at a pivotal
moment. We need experienced, physician-led leadership focused on fair remuneration
across all models, meaningful support for family practice and community consultants,
reducing administrative burden and burnout, and ensuring artificial intelligence enhances
rather than undermines physician-led care.
This is our opportunity to shape the future direction of the OMA and strengthen its voice on
the issues that matter most to physicians.
I would be grateful for your consideration and your support when voting opens.

Happy Family Day to colleagues across Ontario.
For many physicians, today is a rare chance to pause and spend time with family. For others, it is another day of service in hospitals, clinics, and emergency departments, caring for patients who cannot wait.
To those working today, thank you. Your commitment, even on days meant for family, reflects the dedication that defines our profession.
Family Day is also a reminder of why strong, sustainable health care matters. Supporting physicians so we can care for our patients and our own families is essential to the future of medicine in Ontario.
Wishing you a meaningful and restorative day, wherever you are spending it.
