Well just like that - I crashed the first pickleball practice for The Strong Kids Pickleball Tournament a couple weeks ago and I MADE THE TEAM - MOM I DID IT 😂

I would be forever grateful to any one who is capable of donating a couple of dollars to my fundraising initiative. If you're not in a position to donate, please feel free to share this post and spread the word. Sharing is caring my friends!

We have big goals and to date have raised an impressive $8,071 between both and Teams. But I know we can do even better for the youth in our local community!

is at it again! Raising money for the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign 💪🫶

and have dedicated their time and resources to facilitate a Pickleball Tournament with proceeds going to the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

Peterborough, as other communities through out Canada, have many families struggling due to varying reasons. Unfortunately, this weighs heavily on our youth and what opportunities are available to them. Providing Youth a healthy outlet, that may not otherwise be available to them, can be life changing. It has the potential to change the trajectory of their future. Sports, the Arts, Mental Health Supports and Breakfast Programs in schools are a few ways to be able to provide youth with support in our Community.

I have donated a $100 to support Laura in her fund raising efforts and I challenge those who have the means to donate, to do so. It's an easy way, without leaving the comfort of your home, to make a difference in our Community.

Have you recently purchased a home that included a not so new washer and dryer?

This is your PSA to what the inside of the barrel and drum of a top loader washing machine can look like without proper maintenance 😳 Yes, the water fills up the barrel that you see in these pictures and yes, that same water is what you're washing your clothes in.

Perhaps you're a first-time home buyer who wouldn't have considered the maintenance of your appliances or perhaps you've owned multiple homes and run a hot cycle with cleaning products, but have you done a visual to make sure that it's taking care of build up?

It's important to inform yourself of maintenance required for the longevity of your appliances. You'll thank yourself long term, likely keep 💰 in your pocket, be pretty proud of yourself 👏 and have clean laundry too boot!

Ottawa is overhauling their Zoning By-law to fall in line with their updated Official Plan and the current Provincial Policies to meet housing needs.

The Zoning By-law dictates the use of land in a community. Permitted buildings. Where buildings can go on the property. The size of lots, parking requirements, heights and density.

So what does this mean you may ask?

It means more multi-generational housing for aging parents, potential rental income for the average homeowner (as long as secondary units meet current building code requirements and regulations - this is currently in place through Provincial Policies). It means more housing and quicker.

It means no more exclusionary zoning - I.e limiting neighborhoods to single dwellings. It means less tolerated nimbyism. A more seamless, less expensive process for Developers to get shovels in the ground - although many may think that Developers don't need any breaks, but the process from purchasing land to getting a shovel in the ground can take years (and I mean YEARS) and $100,000's, if we keep growing the way we have been as a province/country, we don't have the luxury of time.

More dense intensification, means cheaper infrastructure, less maintenance long term and more housing provided for our current and future population, which ultimately helps the housing continuum.

Will they include a requirement for accessible units and a requirement for a percentage of affordable units? Perhaps they already do, but if not, let's hope it's included.

Hopefully Peterborough follows suit some time soon. We've updated the Official Plan and are currently working off a Zoning By-law close to 25 years old. That is of the dinosaur age when it comes to today's needs and the expectation of mandatory population growth that the Province has put in place for Peterborough.

With that being said, I know we have some very capable and forward thinking Councillors with years of experience in a multitude of areas.
