Two answers in.
I've started putting one question to the candidates in the Peterborough municipal election:
If elected, will you ask the Police Services Board to review how officers respond when they attend a lockout and nobody can produce an order or a sheriff?
So far I've asked the seven mayoral candidates and the six running in Monaghan Ward — the ward where this happened. The other four wards are next.
Two have answered. Both said yes. Both are in Monaghan.
AJ for PTBO Monaghan Ward AJ Shearer — yes. He put it better than I did: officers need to know "what documentation should exist."
Jen Lacey for Monaghan Ward 2 Jen Lacey — yes.
Eleven still to reply.
For anyone new to this: on 1 September, three Trent students renting 907 Bamford Terrace came home to find the locks changed. Rent paid, lease active. A private security company changed them on a lender's lawyer's instruction. No Landlord and Tenant Board order. No hearing. No sheriff. Eight days locked out, then three hours to empty the house onto the lawn.
I was there when police attended. I asked out loud whether anyone had an order, a writ, or any notice served on these tenants. Nothing was produced. The students held up their lease and it was current.
I'll publish every answer as it comes in, including from anyone who doesn't reply.
