I have a crush.

Perfect. Perfect for gatherings. It’s got charm that makes you admire. That cute white picket fence, that pizza oven, the sauna, the pool, the vegetable garden, the playscape, the yard…. Oh my, everything! I just love it here.

Rooms.

I know open-concept living has its place, and I can certainly appreciate it. But I’ve always loved houses with rooms!

As part of a large family, privacy is a rare luxury. Open spaces are wonderful for gathering together, but there is something equally valuable about being able to retreat to a quiet room with its own character and atmosphere.

That’s one of the things I love most about .

We often host multi-generational families and groups of friends, and the house works hard to keep everyone happy. There are spaces designed for gatherings and spaces designed for escaping.

The kitchen flows into the family room, creating a natural hub for conversation, meals, games, and laughter. But tucked away is the parlour, a quieter space for a glass of wine, a deep conversation, a good book, or simply watching the fire crackle.

Our grand dining room offers another kind of retreat. Separate enough to feel intimate, yet close enough that the children can still burst in with an impromptu performance or a song they’ve decided everyone needs to hear!

This is the beauty of rooms.

It’s an element of old home architecture that has largely been forgotten. Walls aren’t just barriers; they create space for experiences.

And perhaps that’s why old houses continue to feel so special. They understand that not every memory is made in the same room.

Old Milford House.

It’s a County house. One with oodles of history, typical of the area. It’s spacious with lots of rooms, and the outdoor space will keep you busy on any vacation. It’s a place nestled in the countryside, far enough to give you the peace a quiet you desire but close enough to the cute town of Picton.

A lake ocean.

I had an ongoing discussion with my friend from France. She couldn’t believe this was a lake. “No way!” I said, “yes way!”

It beautiful, vast and in Prince Edward County.

If you get tired of our pool, take a short trip to sandbanks.

1 weekend left in June and some availability in July and August. Book your summer getaway before the fall creeps in!

I’m always drawn to green. There’s something about it that feels grounding, rich, cozy, and comforting all at once.

I always envisioned this room as moody, long before “moody interiors” became a trend. The antique sofa was one of the first pieces in the space, and I love how the green walls bring out the soft pink tones in the fabric. It acts as the anchor between the eclectic mix of old and new, tying together the antique sofa and the more modern pieces. Even the artwork seems to come alive against the backdrop.

This remains one of my favourite rooms in the house.

Looking back, the only thing I would have done differently is go deeper with the colour. A darker, richer green would have created even more depth and drama. But this was my first moody room, and I played it safe.

Now I know better.

That’s one of the joys of being a host and designing a space for others to experience, you get the freedom to take risks, trust your instincts, and create something that feels a little unexpected.

Mornings in the County.
