Coming Up
Sask Housing has made a requirement that all the sheds owned by the tenants on the north side of the villas are required to be moved further away from the units. This is due to the fact that some major landscaping on the north side of the building is required to prevent water leaking and damage to the unit crawlspaces and also to coincide with Fire Safety Regulations. Unfortunately, for the tenants, this move expense is upon each one of them for their own shed as Sask Housing does not own the sheds and there’s no funding available to move them.

Coming up next week, I will be meeting with the Tenant Association to discuss some of the options that are available to the tenants. So far we have completed the layout of where sheds will be required to be moved to. Further discussion with the tenants will determine whose sheds will be moved by their own family, and whose will be done by a joint effort and shared cost. The timeline to have this completed is June 30th of this year.

A huge thank you to Cora Yurko who has donated her shed to the Tenant Association. It will be situated in a central location for the use of all tenants, especially for those that do not have a shed themselves and have a bit of gardening equipment. A smaller shed has also been donated by Hanna Rawlake (Thank you Hanna) and likewise will be located near the watershed for the use of other tenants.

Tenant Association
Rummage & Bakes Sale
May 30th 10:00 am to 3:00 pm @ Senior Hall

On behalf of the Pierceland Housing Board, I’d like to thank all the tenants for all the hard work they put into raising funds towards their repairs. They did an enormous amount of baking delicious goodies, bread and buns, and pies. Kudos to them for all that hard work during this heat wave. I would have thrown my oven mitts in the oven, turned it on high, cracked a cool one and gave a cash donation.😝

Thank you to tenants Jenny Pahlke, Claudia Wilson, Elaine Johnson and Maxine Torgeson.

Thank you to all of the following for donating baking as well. Cheryl Churko, Iris Horton, Cathy de Clark Marilynne Stacey, Audrey Ehle, Anna Reisinger and Coral Dale. Your time and generosity are so much appreciated.

Besides the tremendous amount of baking donated by the tenants, they also donated many items on the sale tables as well. So many generous people from the community donated items and baking as well for the senior tenants to sell to raise money. Thank you to Twyla Johnson for the donation of plants. Once again, the generosity of Pierceland residents was astounding.🥰 Thank you so much👍

Some of the larger cash donations were given by
Mary Jane Harrison
Cora Yurko
Coral Dale
Leslie Brunet
Beverly Rawlake
Denise Demuth
Racquel Rawlake
Tyrell Turchyn
Along with several smaller donations when buyers just evened up their cash.
Thank you so much to everybody who came and purchased. The generosity and support was amazing.

50-50 tickets were also on sale. Tickets sold were $240 worth and the winner Holly Bararienski took home a prize of $120.

Total monies raised today from the rummage and bake sale and 50/50 came to $1916.65.

Other monies that the tenant association have raised are as follows:
Sale of some other small items $70,
a previous bingo $250, a donation from RCMP Sargent $200, sale of two armchairs donated by tenants $122.50,
sale of another larger item $50 and proceeds from their last meal and bingo $245.

The total funds raised so far are $2609.15. These funds will be put towards repairing the electrical line to their watershed for watering their garden. We will continue with bingo in the fall, raising more funds for the tenant association. Funds remaining after the repair of the electrical line will be put towards a shade gazebo of some sort for the tenants and seniors to enjoy in the backyard.

The leftover items from the sale have been taken to the Beacon Hill plant for the next garage sale around June 20th. Thete will have be a table set up for them to continue selling these items and any other items that someone wishes to donate to them.😊👍

Pierceland - you are AWESOME🥰

The planned spring meal for the tenants and single seniors that was to be held on April 25 at the senior hall had to be postponed due to the weather and the water situation in the village.

We will be setting another date for this meal and bingo.

Sending a huge thank you to our former RCMP Sergeant Sebastian and Danielle Tremblay, who have moved on from our community. They left a cash donation of $200 for the senior tenants towards their fundraising for their electrical problem.

Pierceland Housing Fire Drill
Housing Authorities are requested to hold a fire drill once a year for the safety of the tenants.

This year it was held on March 24th at 7 PM at the senior hall.

The main goal of presenting this fire safety meeting once a year is to keep all new tenants in the loop of where the muster point is, what it’s for and fire safety requirements suited best to the tenants.

Although all of our tenants were not able to make it that evening, we are hoping for a better turnout at our next safety meeting.

This year the safety presentation was done by the Pierceland Volunteer Fire Department. Fire Chief Alanna Farris assisted by fire volunteers, Brian and Aiden Farris and Tyler DeClark discussed with the tenants the muster point and why it was important for all tenants to meet at that time so that Housing representatives and emergency personnel would be able to determine if there was anybody missing that needed to be looked for. They also discussed some safety measures for tenants and gave a brief display on the operation of the fire blankets that are in all of the units. The tenants were reminded that their first priority is their safety and at any fire to simply leave the building and call 911 and let emergency personnel deal with putting it out even with the use of the fire blankets.

Pierceland Housing had also invited Tyler DeClark to do a small presentation on tenant insurance packages on behalf of Pierceland Agencies. Tenants were reminded that Housing Insurance only covers the structure and belongings of Pierceland Housing and that the tenant’s personal belongings must be coveted by their own insurance policies. In the event of a fire or other emergency tenants need to have their own coverage to protect themselves.

It was reviewed with the tenants some of the instances where they would be covered that may not be because of fire, but because of some other event, taking place that caused them to be displaced from their unit and how the cost of them having to do so would be covered by their insurance.

Although some of the tenants had attended these fire safety events a couple of times before there is always something new to learn and become aware of.

Coffee and donuts were available for the enjoyment of everyone. Thank you to Richies Chicken for supplying us with donuts. The fire safety program is always open to anybody that would like to attend.

The Pierceland Housing Authority wants to thanks the Pierceland Volunteer Fire Department for taking the time to do the safety presentation. Thank you also to Tyler for the presentation on behalf of Pierceland Agencies.

Our next tenant and senior meal coming up soon. With these meals, we had at first started out with just the tenants a few years ago, and then we started adding the single seniors from the village and lately have been adding single seniors in the rural area as well.

If you know of a single senior that hasn’t been extended an invitation to this meal, please contact me and I will make sure that they receive an invitation

Anybody is welcome to come and attend our bingos. We always look forward to having a nice crowd.

Pierceland Housing

PHA tenants belong to Pine View Villa Tenant Association automatically as a tenant.

This association meets a minimum of three times a year and is set up to represent the tenants concerns and issues between them as a whole and the Pierceland Housing Board.

This board qualifies for a grant from Sask Housing every year, and the monies can be used towards their garden, maintaining it, having meetings and offering presentations or services that can be related to the tenants as a whole. They only receive $480 a year to operate.

Last year, their water system that they use for watering the garden quit working. They required a new pump and a bladder. They didn’t have the funds for this, but it was covered for them by a donation.

But after repairing the pump system, they still couldn’t get the system working and it was discovered that the electrical had been cut sometime last summer with all the services that were flagged in the back. It is not certain when it got cut or who cut it and there’s no proof to go back on anybody.

An estimate on repairing this is in the $2000 range or more. It has to be dug in and by hand as there are so many lines back there.

Bottom line is the tenant association is raising money to have this repair done so they can continue with their gardening which is a big part of their summer, and keeping them active and enjoying something together.

This year they set aside $260 of their grant money to go towards this. At our last tenant meal, the proceeds from the bingo amounted to $250 and that was presented to the tenant association to put towards their repairs.

We will be having another meal and bingo in April and one in June and hopefully we’ll have another $250 from each bingo to put towards this.

The tenants are also putting on a Rummage and Bake sale on May 30th to raise some more funds .

So far we are looking at maybe having about $1200 at the end of June.

At our bingo, we have been offering prizes that have been donated by generous people in the community.

We categorize the prizes for between 10 and $15 . Between 15 and $20. And the blackout prizes are $20 plus.

If anybody has items that they would like to donate towards this fundraiser, please let me know. I can pick them up and I will make sure that they get to the bingo.

On May 30th when they have their Rummage and Bake sale if anybody has items that they would like to donate for the tenants to sell to raise money that would be greatly appreciated. There will also be tables available to rent to sell your own product there if you wish.

The tenants will also have their own table there with baking that they have done for sale. Posters will be forthcoming and hung up in the community.

Thank you in advance everyone that is generous enough to donate towards this project. A huge thank you to all of those that have donated prizes towards the tenant bingo. They are greatly appreciated and the tenants really do enjoy having a meal followed by bingo and being able to enjoy an evening out.

If you have any items that you’d like to donate or if you’d like to help out with these meals and bingo, please call me at 306-301-1956. We will keep you in the loop and you are not obligated at any time to always be there but if you are free and would like to help out, we are very thankful for the time and effort that people put towards the seniors.
