❗️New Wildfire Clause – A Smart Move for B.C. Home Buyers & Sellers

Wildfires are a real and growing concern across B.C.—and they can throw a wrench into real estate transactions if you can’t secure fire insurance on time.

That’s where the optional wildfire clause from BCFSA comes in:

If wildfire conditions delay home/fire insurance, you can extend the closing by up to 30 days.

When insurance is finally arranged, simply notify the seller—and they may accelerate closing to just five business days later.

This gives both buyers and sellers breathing room to sort insurance or financing without blowing up the deal.

But remember, it’s not a get-out-of-contract-free card—you must show you tried your best to get insurance.

Tip: If wildfire risks are a factor in your area, talk with your real estate professional about adding this clause—and checking in with a lawyer to make sure it fits your specific situation doesn't hurt either.
