The Market Minute ⏱️
Could the real estate market be gaining momentum this fall?
The Bank of Canada held its overnight rate at 2.25% this week, while Canada’s economy continues to show signs of recovery. GDP grew 3.3% in Q2, and housing activity is showing signs of a rebound.
In their latest report, RBC says Canada’s housing market is beginning to find its footing, with resales improving, inventory stabilizing and prices showing signs of finding a floor. They’re forecasting a 6.7% increase in national transactions in 2027.
For REALTORS®, the takeaway is simple: don’t try to predict the market—understand it. Know the numbers, understand the factors driving them, and help your clients separate the headlines from what’s actually happening in their local market.
And locally, there are some encouraging signs.
Over the past 30 days, our appointment-to-sold index is 9.9 — meaning roughly 10 appointments are generating a sale.
Our weekly sales-to-new-listings ratio was also stronger at 94.5% for RE/MAX Escarpment & Niagara, compared with 85.3% across the region.
Buyer activity is shifting by market, too:
📍 Hamilton: $500K–$599K
📍 Halton: $1M–$1.49M
📍 Haldimand: $400K–$499K and $700K–$799K tied for #1
📍 Niagara: $500K–$599K
So, as we head into September, the big question is:
Will the return to fall routines bring more buyers and sellers back to the market?
September could give us our first real indication of a more active fall.
And last but not least, congratulations to everyone in our brokerage who earned a spot in the RE/MAX Top 100, as well as those celebrating incredible 25-to-55-year milestones with the Cornerstone Association of REALTORS®.
A remarkable achievement and a true testament to the dedication and commitment of our people.
Congratulations to everyone! 👏
