Some homes are just houses.
Some are the place you land after building a whole life.

8 Portal Drive sits in that second category.

Tucked into Portal Village, backing onto Maple Park, this is where Port Colborne people end up on purpose. The ones who built businesses, raised families, knew every face in town… and then they retire to the place where everyone knows their name.

It reminds me of my Nana. She had her florist shop here for years. She knew everyone & probably sent half of you home with flowers at some point. And when it came time to slow things down, she moved to Portal Village. This is not my Nana’s home, but it reminds me of her & I love visiting Portal Village for that reason.

This home has had one owner since 2003 and it shows in all the right ways. 2 beds, 2 baths, bungaloft layout. Main floor living, laundry where it should be.
Room upstairs for when the grandkids take over for the weekend.
A full unfinished basement waiting for whatever version of “next” you want to build.

And out back? A deck that looks onto green space and a walking path instead of someone else’s fence.

It’s low maintenance.
It feels like home.
It’s the kind of place where everybody might not know your name yet… but they will.

Not all legends start on a runway. Some start in a Newfoundland thrift store for $1.

This faux fur coat has lived a life. Danced in. Jet skied in. Road-tripped across Canada. Then, in a moment that was half joke, half magic, it got tossed into a Royal LePage Shelter Foundation auction.

Fast forward… and this might be the most famous jacket in Royal LePage history.

Every year it gets auctioned. The winner wears it for 12 months. Then it comes back to raise even more. And every single dollar supports the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, funding programs that help prevent domestic violence and support women and children rebuilding after abuse.

That $1 thrift store find has now raised over $255,000 on its own. Wild, right?

I’m Carlie Smith, proud Royal LePager from the Niagara Region, and this year I get to help carry this story forward.

This October, agents from across Canada are heading to Niagara Falls for National Sales Conference, where this coat will hit the auction stage again.

And closer to home, you can help make a difference too. Join me this March at Brunch, Bid & Bowl in support of Birchway Niagara. Every dollar helps provide safe shelter and real support for people who need it most, right in our own backyard. Check my instagram bio for links with more details.

Yes, I’ll be bringing the jacket. Obviously.
