Dahlias, their blooms are hard to miss, the varieties of colours and forms are vast and lovely! I was so happy to find some Kelgai Anne tubers last winter and took lots of cuttings. I plant each variety I purchase in a separate garden to monitor over the summer for virus or gall. Two death sentences for a dahlia plant, as these can easily spread to other dahlias by using the same snips, or some insects spreading the virus. I was so sad to notice strange veining on the leaves on this favourite, workhorse variety. It has been getting worse over the last week and today I had to pull them all. I was so dreaming of offering loads of these in the U pick garden next summer. So far the other varieties that are new to me are looking great. Trusting they will all make the cut for next summer.
Have you had any gardening disappointments so far this year?
