Every story begins with a first chapter. 🗝
For Bower Woods, it starts with the earth itself.
With approvals now in place, early site work is underway — and it all begins by caring for the land beneath our feet. Over the past few weeks, our team has been carefully stripping and saving the site’s rich topsoil: the dark, living layer that will one day return to nourish Bower Woods’ parks, trails, and yards.
In traditional site prep, heavy machinery mixes topsoil with clay, turning a valuable resource into waste. Here, we’re doing things differently — separating and storing the soil so it can live on, feeding the landscape that will define this community.
It’s the first step in a long journey from land to livable community — a process rooted in respect for the land and the legacy of this place.
As former Mayor Ken Johnston shared:
“Melcor’s Bower Woods development is a shining example of what responsible, future-focused community building looks like. This project preserves our natural assets, honours our heritage, and supports Red Deer’s continued growth as a connected, livable city.”
This is how a community grows — from the ground up.
