We attended the Remembrance Day service today in Lacombe at the Lacombe Memorial Center. We were so happy to see so many attending, there was an even an overflow area. Families, young people, seniors, all generations coming together to honor the veterans and remembering those who lost their lives so we could enjoy our freedoms that we have. They paid the ultimate price! We appreciated so much all the work that the Legion did to organize this and it was so beautiful to see the young cadets together with the Legion members, side by side assisting the individuals that were laying the wreaths. We appreciated the words from Pastor Doug Herbert as well. The sound of the trumpet at The Last Post and The Rouse played by Gerald Ganson was touching and having 2 minutes of silence made such an impact. The room was absolutely silent as we listened and remembered the fallen soldiers. You could hear a pin drop!! The sound of the bagpipes was another moment that brought shivers. The Red Deer and District Pipe Band did an amazing job as they led the procession in at the beginning of the service and as they marched out at the end. There is something about hearing those bag pipes! When we sang Oh Canada, led by Pastor Doug Herbert, it brought mixed emotions, and was wonderful to hear so many sing out and everyone wearing their poppies on their lapels in remembrance. It is moments like these that make us proud to be Canadians! May we never forget these moments and always stand for what is right and take a stand for Truth as those in the past gave their lives for so we could have a country "Strong and Free". Thank you to everyone who organized and participated in the service today and thank you to everyone who attended. I am sure the Legion members and veterans appreciated your presence and remembrance. Take a moment to stop and thank a veteran for their service and honour them by listening to their stories. Giving of our time is the least we can do to show our thanks and appreciation. May God Bless our country and may we NEVER FORGET what sacrifices were made in the past and that continue to be made so we can live free in this country.
